Tumulus Saint-Michel (Carnac, Morbihan)

In the Carnac region, the Tumulus Saint-Michel has a real impact over the general landscape ; from its summit, the Menec, Kermario and Kerlescant alignments are visible. Firstly excavated by Galles and Lefebvre (1862-1864), the monument showed to have had a complex history. An inner cist uncovered in the central part of the tumulus gave particularly interesting evidence for middle Neolithic occupations, while later excavations by Z. Le Rouzic (1900-1907) uncovered secondary cists and a passage grave in the eastern edge of the long tumulus.
